Wedding Savings
A wedding can be a time of joy and sorrow. Joy – if you marry somebody you love and sorrow – if you marry not because of love but because you have to. But above all a wedding can be a time of financial disaster. The average American couple spends about $20,000 for their wedding! (And God knows how many times that when they divorce a couple of years later). It is possible to have a very modest wedding for under $3,000 but for many people such savings are unacceptable because they involve cutting down the number of guests or offering a really stingy reception. But there are many other choices between the two extremes – being stingy and being lavish, so sit down and make a list of all the activities that you can cut – for instance why hire a DJ and a photographer when your friends can do this professionally at no cost? What is more, this will be a relief for them too because this way they will make you a really valuable present instead of buying you pieces of cutlery you might never use!
